Executive Director
Part-time Volunteer Position
The Tacoma Concert Band is seeking an Executive Director who will function as the Chief Administrative Officer of the band and will work in conjunction with the Music Director to represent the band and their collective interests at meetings with various organizations within the local community.
Qualifications
An interest in, and understanding of, the mission and function of the Tacoma Concert Band
Must be a highly motivated self-starter who works well and demonstrates excellent judgment under limited supervision
Strong leadership skills and ability to build consensus among a diverse group of individuals
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage a variety of projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines
Additionally, the candidate must have a flexible schedule to allow for occasional daytime meetings
Responsibilities
•
Support and promote the mission of the Tacoma Concert Band.
•
Provide timely advice to the Board regarding any developments that might affect the organization’s capacity to pursue its objectives.
•
Coordinate with the Treasurer to manage the organization’s financial resources, revenues and expenditures within the parameters of the approved budget.
•
Provide reports that allow the Board to assess the well-being of the organization and progress in meeting its objectives.
•
Implement Board policies and directives.
•
Assess technical/logistical needs and, in collaboration with the Music Director, supervise technical components of all rehearsals, concerts and activities.
•
Manage all business activities between the TCB and the Broadway Center and any other concert venues.
•
Develop and implement audience development initiatives.
•
Coordinate with committees the production of TCB print and promotional materials.
•
Manage communication elements of the band and provide timely response to all inquiries. (mail, telephone, email, and website)
•
Collaborate with the TCB Board to develop policy, plan and implement events, and participate in annual and long-range planning and assessment.
•
Establish ties with appropriate government, artistic, philanthropic, and educational organizations.
•
Manage grants administration
•
In collaboration with the President of the Board, oversee and insure that the responsibilities of all committees are met within appropriate time lines. The committees may include but are not limited to the following:
o
Marketing
o
Fund raising and advertising
o
Special events
o
Budget and Finance
o
Education
o
Strategic Development
•
In collaboration with the President of the Board, oversee and insure that the responsibilities of all individuals’ assigned specific jobs/responsibilities are met within the appropriate time lines. Those jobs may include but are not limited to the following:
o
Ticket sales
o
Summer Concerts
o
Grant writing
o
Concert Program
o
Volunteers
o
Web site
Summary:
The Executive Director is the chief administrative officer of the Tacoma Concert Band and is responsible to its Board of Directors for the administration and implementation of the Board’s policies and administrative directives.
To achieve the mission of the TCB, the Executive Director works together with the TCB Music Director for planning, organizing, coordinating, and managing the operations of the organization within the parameters of the approved annual operating plan and budget.
The Executive Director with the Music Director is the ‘face’ of the Tacoma Concert Band to the public and represents the band at meetings of various organizations.
